5 out of 5 stars The Missing Mac Essential   November 4, 2008

The multimedia card reader is the perfect accessory for photographers who need quick access to pictures. The card sits flush with the laptop so it can stay without having to take it out. No problems!

5 out of 5 stars Couldn't be more happy!   August 31, 2008

I've been looking for some way to transfer my pictures from SD card to my MacBook Pro without having to drag out the usb cable that came with my Kodak camera for a while now. I went out and bought a 21-in-1 external reader just for that purpose, but still had to carry it with me everywhere I went, including cables.

After seeing this product, I knew it was for me! Once it arrived in the mail, I immediately opened it and popped it into my macbook pro! It inserts easily and is 'almost' flush with the side of the computer. Almost meaning, it sticks out about a half of a centimeter, which is completely fine with me, there is NO WAY it could get caught on anything and damage itself or my $3000 laptop. I've used the reader MANY times since it was purchased.

Another good thing was it takes no drivers, you just put it into the express slot and away you go, it doesn't prompt you to do ANYTHING, it JUST WORKS (perfect for the non computer savvy crowd).

I almost transfer my pics over immediately after I take them now since it's not a hassle to get them from SD to the computer. I am extremely happy and would reccomend this to anyone with a macbook pro or macbook if you are missing the ability to stick a memory card directly into your laptop.

Good product, great price, I haven't taken it out of my machine ever since I purchased it!

4 out of 5 stars Great use for the ExpressCard slot on a Macbook Pro   August 28, 2008

Not much to add from the previous reviews, but here's my quick Pro/Con List, from a MacBook Pro POV

Pro:

--100% Plug-n-Play

--Sits near-flush, no need to remove when you pack up your laptop

--No 'sleep issues' as reported by some ExpressCard readers by other manufacturers

Con:

--Blister pack is nasty - I took a chunk out of my finger trying to get the damn thing out of the packaging (more me being clumsy than a product defect - just keep in mind that the cut packaging is as sharp as a blade)

--'21 in 1' is a bit of misnomer - you need adapters for all the mini/micro SD/MS cards (most smaller cards are sold with adapters, so not a major issue, just something to keep in mind)

--Edit: I'm dumb - you just push the card in and it pops out like normal - I had been trying to yank it out.

--Cards do NOT sit flush (at least not with SD/MS), so you should remove before stowing the laptop. (to the best of my knowledge, no ExpCard reader allows cards to sit flush though)

Conclusion: This is 'best in class' as far as I am concerned. Buy it, you won't regret it.

This is a great product to go with your MacBook Pro. Apple really should have included these slots by default, but this is an excellent alternative that simply works.
