3 out of 5 stars It works, but. . .   August 9, 2008
Nitpicker (SoCal)
The previous reviews point out most of this USB 2.0 card reader/writer pros and cons. Here is my 2 cents:
Pros: Decent construction and its internal USB connecter cable is a generous length (about 19 in.). Reliably reads many different memory cards including HC (High Capacity) cards.
Cons: It is a 3.5 in. reader. That is OK, but a 5.25 in. drive bay adapter kit ought to included in the package. My second quibble is that no mention is made specifically in the description that this reader is compatible with 32 bit operating systems only (this is stated on the mnfr's web site product description sheet). It still reads the cards alright on my 64 bit system but the green activity light usually remains on constantly with or without memory cards inserted. Occassionally, my system does not recognize all four drives. Maybe two or three. Upon reboot it usually sees all four.
I recommend this product with the caveat that it should only be considered for use with Windows XP 32 bit or Vista 32 bit.

5 out of 5 stars Easy Installation, works fine   February 7, 2008

Easy to install and does what it is supposed to do. Faster than my old reader (trashed by a bad CF card - bent the pins).
Yes, it needs a USB port on the motherboard, but as long as you don't have one of those Dells with their silly proprietary motherboards you should be ok. Check first.
One annoyance - the power light on the reader stays on permanently. I can't imagine what the reason for that is.

4 out of 5 stars convenient, but tricky   July 28, 2007

I had purchased this item several months ago. I installed it on my Gateway, and it wasn't too hard to install.... but there was little documentation to go by. The biggest problem that I had was that it slowed down my computer's start up time from about 20 seconds to roughly 4 minutes. I searched the web for updates and tech support, and even contacted Tiger Direct (who never returned my email). Well, by accident I had forgotten to remove a card from the reader one day, and when it started up, it only took the usual 20 seconds. So, FYI if your start up time is slowed down considerably after intalling this drive, just leave a card in the slot.
